He is a retired Indian table tennis player. He is an Arjuna Awardee and a former table tennis champion. In 2017. The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Games, India appointed him as the national observer for Table Tennis.

He was an Indian national level rifle shooter before he transitioned into coaching. Currently he is the assistant coach of the Indian Shooting Team. Pawan has also significant experience and expertise in the field of equipment control. He was a JURY of Equipment Control for Commonwealth Games, 2010. He was previously the coach of Indian Shooting Team and has won many accolades for his work.
